Trick or Treat?

Learning a foreign language is not limited to vocabulary and grammar rules, but also to contact with the culture, customs and traditions of the country. In the context of the English lesson, the students of our school, under the guidance of the English language teachers Mrs. Chrysanthi Kofou and Mrs. Aikaterini Marmaridou, learned about the custom of Halloween, painted, played and made imaginative constructions.

Every year on October 31st in English-speaking countries (England, Australia, America and elsewhere) the holiday of Halloween is celebrated, which comes from an abbreviation of the phrase “All Hallow’s Eve”.

The custom began about 2000 years ago by the Celts to celebrate the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter. Nowadays it is a celebration of joy especially for children who dress up and go from house to house with their friends shouting “Trick or treat?” eager to collect as many sweets as they can.
